Hi
John and I could be accused of sweating the details where some folks never place much attention.
One of those mission critical areas that you do not want to worry about at night or at while sea is your shaft design, material and setup.
Later this week John will share his thoughts and some images on what goes into proper shaft material selection as well as proper manufacturing design and techniques.
Just one more thing that makes a Pacific Expedition Yacht the safe and robust platform it was designed and crafted to be.
Thanks
Pat and John

I have had to have shafts replaced because Lagoon used a lower grade alloy of stainless and pitting corrosion occurred. Nightmare. There are many types of corrosion and galvanic destruction that occur with marine shafts. With entrapped water or entrained water is part of the problem, such as a drive shaft faces routinely, a specific type of corrosion occurs known as pitting corrosion. This is part galvanic and part gravitational and related to imperfections and small pits in the surface of the shaft. Since the shafts may sit idle for months at a time between uses this can be an important concern. Believe me, I had to learn the hard way$$$$.
We understand!!
John will have some comments.
Stay tuned....yet you know the drill!
Thanks!
